Even our very experienced manufacturer in the rural region of Sauerland in North-Rhine Westphalia does not get to work with such material every day. First-class pelts from Icelandic sheep are traded at premium prices. To get a really soft finished product, only selected pelts are used for the coat. Genetically, Icelandic sheep are related to the livestock brought to the country by the Vikings 1,100 years ago, making them the oldest and purest domestic breed of sheep in the world. They are bred primarily for their meat, a staple in the Icelandic kitchen. Lambing occurs in April and May, and a few weeks after being born, the lambs leave the fold and begin their semi-wild existence in the Icelandic mountains.Specialized in precise craftsmanship. This slightly tapered women’s coat with lapel collar and three genuine horn buttons is made from naturally grown Icelandic lambskin. In keeping with the plush lambskin, the buttonhole loops feature elaborate piping. The lapel collar can be worn either turned up or open and lying flat; two small, inconspicuous button loops on the edge of the lapel make this easy to do. The comfortable pockets are neatly worked into the coat’s side seams. Every effort is made to ensure first class workmanship and, therefore, the longevity of the garment. The leather tailors in Sauerland have been producing high-quality leather and lambskin clothing for over three generations. State-of-the-art machinery is used as well as traditional methods of manufacture to ensure maximum quality. The owner is a skilled furrier and places great value on the traditional methods employed in this craft. The buttons, for example, are not sewn on by machine, but by hand, using a traditional furrier’s needle. So that their length can be adjusted to suit the individual, the sleeves have been made with wide cuffs. Because several pelts are used to make a single coat, there may be some variation in colour. This is merely an indication of the natural origin of the skins and occurs as the livestock is reared.General product information
